Ten-grain Sweet Porridge

About Ten-grain Sweet Porridge

This porridge is a high-fiber, low-fat food source.

About Chinese brown sugar

Chinese brown sugar is cane sugar and water pressed into dense bars about a half-inch thick. A half-pound is roughly equal to 1 1/2 cups of regular brown sugar. This sugar is sold under the name "Brown Candy" in Chinatown markets.

About black dates

Black Date, also called Chinese Jujube, Da Zao, Hei Zao, Hong Zao, Jujube Plum, Jujubi, Red Date, Zao, Zizyphus and Zyzyphus jujube.
These nice plump dates are tonic to the Spleen and Stomach Qi. The Jujube Date is a sweet herb that is also used to aid in the flavoring of foods such as rice, soup and tea. With a neutral energy, Jujube Dates enter the Spleen and Stomach meridians. Jujube Dates are also commonly used to moderate the actions of other herbs in a formula.

About tangerine peel

Tangerine Peel, Citrus Peel, or Chen Pi, is in the category of herbs that regulate Qi. This aromatic herb is acrid and bitter in flavor and exhibits a warming energy. Tangerine Peel is unlike many Chinese Herbs in that the quality of this herb increases the longer it is aged.

INGREDIENTS
Serve 1

60 gm organic ten-grain rice
10 nos black dates
1 tablespoon Chinese brown sugar
1 piece tangerine peel
6 bowl water

1. Clean the ten-grain rice; soak in water for 2 hours.

2. Soak the tangerine peel till soft and remove the bitter pith.

3. Wash dried black dates, cut into halves so its flavour comes out easily.

4. Add all ingredients to saucepan and bring to the boil.

5. Then keeping the heat at low, cook till rice opens up.

6. Add sugar, stir till well mixed.
